Bonefish Puff

The Bonefish Puff is a classic Bahamas bonefish pattern built around a simple but highly visible profile. Its hot orange chenille head provides a strong color target, while the silver bead-chain eyes help the fly ride hook-point up across turtle grass and hard sand.

A soft white Craft Fur wing and grizzly hackle tail with pearl flash complete the profile, while the bead-chain construction keeps the fly light enough for a soft entry—especially important when presenting to tailing bonefish in shallow water.

The Bonefish Puff is primarily designed for bonefish, but it's versatile enough to attract Permit, small barracuda, and baby tarpon in mangrove creeks.

Lead the fish by six to eight feet and allow the fly to reach bottom before beginning your retrieve. Short, sharp strips with pauses make the fly dart and drop, with many eats coming as it falls.
